The best way to learn tai chi is to find a good teacher - check out several classes - because all teachers are different and you'll want to find the right one for you.
It's not always easy to find a good teacher near you at the times you can attend the classes. If that is the case for you then it is still possible to learn tai chi at home.
What you need is a good course either online or a good dvd or a good book.
In general it is pretty tricky to learn tai chi from a book because its difficult to see how to get from one posture to the next. So it's probably a good idea to start with qigong because all the fundaments of balance weight shifting and breathing are present without the complication of remembering walking sequences. You could start with our qigong exercises and have a look at the video clips.
Lots of the books and dvds only make sense if you already have a general knowledge of what you are trying to achieve.
